Six Packers @ Cafe Del Mar

Café Del Mar is the theatre for one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. The music played there provides the soundtrack as the people kick back on that shoreline and soak up the truly unique atmosphere.

In summer, IBIZA is the clubbing capital of the world, a veritable party paradise of 24 hour hedonism.

But the life on this beautiful island on the middle of the Mediterranean has also created a whole new way of playing and listening to music, based around a simple idea…

This is what you do; take the time to sit own wit a cold drink outside a café and watch the sunset. It is the greatest show on earth, God’s own cinema, in all its flaming glory. Then let some sensitive soul create a soundtrack to that show.

A different set everyday, capturing the mood of the evening, musically mirroring the magical images unfolding across the water. The style is called Balearic, after the group of islands which IBIZA is a part, and the place where it all started.

NTL final 2006; Six Pack vs Wanderers

After a long NTL tournament it all came down to this last and final game. Six Pack blessed to be without serious injury were in a position to field their strongest team. The lack of an ultimate frisbee game allowed Wanderers to show up in strength, eager to overturn their 15-1 thrashing earlier in the league and to wash away the bitter taste of the mixed final defeat. The next 45 minutes would determine who would take home the bragging rights and who would be left to answer the endless, “what if’s?” that ultimately follow defeat.

Crowds drew in for the anticipation of a close encounter between the leagues 2 top teams. The only thing that could have possibly fired up the game anymore would be an early score, which Adam duly provided. Scored in the games opening attack between Six Packs most telepathic pair. The Teo-Chan partnership that has proven so highly illustrious throughout the league set up a perfectly executed move, Adam cutting back in and selling the dummy to David before crashing over.

The following encounters saw each team covering the length of the pitch in their respective set of 6. Wanderers eventually set up camp on the Six Pack 5m line but a new diving touch tac-tic adopted by Sujan maintained the Six Pack lead. It didn’t last. A simple switch sucked in the Six Pack defence exposing an open gap for an easy score.

Six Pack came close to taking the lead again after David’s full-length dummy half break and then Yum’s heroic dive and score. What would have been one of the tries of the season was ruled out for being a forward pass.

More was to follow. Gideon’s season long trash talking almost paid dividends, sucking in a Wanderers player twice his size only too eager to knock Gideon out, presented a perfect gap to break through. Only a marginal forward pass prevented Adam from bagging his second.

Play soon switched ends with Wanderers camping out on the Six Pack 5m line. Some questionable defending by Taufik (with a ‘k’) resulted in Wanderers taking the lead and left Leander with no option but to get owned by Six Packs nemesis, Moses!

Worse was to follow as another Six Pack defensive error created an all too easily executed overlap. Being 2 tries down Wanderers sent in Tim to take out Six Packs hatchet man Adam. The bait wasn’t taken. Instead Jit “don’t touch the shirt” Wei somehow managed to pull off a move Kenny could only dream of. Any more for breakfast and his tummy tuck escape wouldn’t have been enough. The score proved vital to lift Six Packs spirits just before half time.

An unusually nervous and quiet half time break ensued. The second half has been renamed “The Amila Show,” by popular demand. Plenty of fluids at the break was just enough to shake off his customary vodka and cornflakes breakfast. Amila then sprung into action scoring from a well-worked “Tuesday.” Interestingly the Wanderers defence decided to adopt a rather unorthodox tac-tic for the second half by swapping hard work and solid marking for a single well rehearse sentence, “but he’s dummy half sir!” Their attack however retained its usual potency as they soon retook the lead; 4-3 Wanderers.

Gideon “almost all the way” Luo could have levelled the score moments later but instead decided to drop the ball over the line. Amila then provided a perfect opportunity for Gideon to redeem himself after a solo break. His dummy half break resembled a scene from a greyhound track; Amila the hare being chased by no fewer than 5 Wanderers players, before offloading to Gideon “Teflon” Luo who showed his first drop was no fluke.

Not to be put off by a laughing competition with Devon, Gideon got back in the thick of things and was only denied a try by a dubious forward pass call. Another try denial followed as Wanderers “he’s dummy half sir” defence fooled the referee.

The equalizer did eventually follow in the dying moments of the game, Amila executing another brilliant play ensuring extra time sudden death.

The atmosphere at extra time resembled that of a World Cup penalty shoot out. Six Pack nerves held steady as the chosen few performed textbook crash ups followed by an Leander-Amila combo handing the try advantage to Six Pack. The pressure proved too much for Wanderers to handle as their attack failed to match that of their rivals.

Six Pack 5-4 winners and NTL Champs

Thanks to Brenda for the photos, the film crew and their commentary;

“Taufik I love you,” -Sheema
“He’s so cute,” -(about Moses) Unknown
“Come to me!” -Steph’s incentive to crash up the field
“Sujan I love your hands,” -Sheema
“Alan looks smart with his shirt tucked in, but not cool,” -Aien
“I think the ref has PMS,” –Unknown but probably Sheema

The celebrations went well into the night. Special mention should go to Adam for picking up the Men’s MVP, an award voted for by the players and to David for most tries scored. Emotions ran deep as players tattooed their chests in the time-honoured tradition with their commitment to the team or just their favourite player.

STOP CHILD PORNOGRAPHY!

As much as Six pack is probably one of the most politically incorrect, racist, homophobic and verbally abusive teams I have ever played for, but I know that deep down, you guys are a good bunch. I appeal to that good nature and to whoever visits this blog, to help fight against child pornography. Consider the following facts:

Children 3 YEARS and YOUNGER are victims of child pornography

Disturbingly, the number of child pornography offenders has INCREASED BY 1500% in just 13 years

It doesn’t cost you a single cent to lend your voice and support against the atrocities committed by the sickest and most perverse type of humankind. Help fight child pornography and let us protect the future of the young ones.

Coming clean...

Ok guys...by this time your common sense would have already been ticking of the charts!

Sorry for the bluff but this is the real deal...

There won't be any fancy schmancy dinnerware or a 10 course degustation menu or any mousse de foies de volaille or Bouillon de Volaille au vermicelli...I dun even know how to pronounce the damn thing...

There will be wine...probably from 7-eleven. Unless our Indon friend decides to bestow the occasion with a lil' bit more of his liquor collection...

The possibility of an overhead blanket of stars will not be within my control or influence...

There won't be 15 silky, sensuous, bronze coloured, bootilicious, exotic, mysterious and gorgeous nymphos wrapping their curvacious tight lil' packages around your thighs, twirling your hair, feeding you grapes and sloshing champagne all over their heavenly angel-like bodies...

In fact there won't be any ladies at all as this occasion is only open to the guys of 6 pack...past and present...and even so, there will be limited seating capacity. And as usual, not everyone will turn up. In the event of that, the places will naturally open up for some of the ladies, whom, unfortunately will not be eligible either as they are probably, already spoken for.

Possible food items featuring are:

Starting with:
-pizza magherita
-mussels with garlic and butter lemon sauce**
-salad (squid salad or caprese***)

Entree:
-risotto with wild mushrooms**
-tuna meatballs or stuffed squid

Roast:
-whole duck with herbs and orange
-leg of lamb with anchovies**
-rib of beef**
-rabbit pot roast

Sides:
-roast potatoes with duck fat
-mash potato with mascarpone cheese

Place: 95 Paya Lebar Crescent (nearest MRT is Serangoon MRT which is a 5 min drive away)

Time: 8PM

Confirmed Date: 10 February 2007

Seating Capacity: 16

Confirmed: Adam, David, Gideon, Leander, Kenny, Jervais, Alan, Siang Junn, Jielun, Loo, Aggie, Mag, Hannie....

Seating available: 3 more

So I suggest that those who are interested, be quick to inform me. You can do this via the shout box located on the right corner of this page. Just indicate your name and your availability (coming or NOT coming) as well as the date preferred. At this moment, only 6 Pack members are eligible. I will update the blog as we go along with regards to how many people that have confirmed and if there are any seat availability for your CHICKS in instances where not enough guys can fill up the spaces. Due to limited seating, please confirm ASAP or you'll be sorely missed.

I apologize for the limited seating which can be attributable to:

1. I only have one oven and one stove
2. I only have two tables (one to be provided by Gideon)
3. I have limited dining space
4. I have limited dinner ware
5. To foster good camaraderie and build a closer bond within OUR team
6. I have limited liability in case of a mishap

And now is probably the hardest part for me and for those who are reading this...
I'm sure the phrase, "there is no such thing as a free lunch (or dinner in this case)" rings a bell. As such I will be charging a total of SGD 30.00 (w/o drinks)per pax. Doing the math, thats SGD 480.00 in total and I will be forking out my own for the balance. I know this can be rather steep for some of us but the ingredients committed into this occasion ain't cheap either (just consider the roasts alone). So for the benefit of this rare occasion to kick start the 2007 season and as a farewell gesture for Jielun, please consider long and hard before leaving your name in the shoutbox. I will be collecting the money in advance as we go along cuz I will need it to buy the ingredients. It will also be greatly appreciated if each of us are able to bring a bottle of the bubbly on the day! Wine will do fine...so will a 6 Pack.

So, hope to see you then!!!

"We're a classy buncha lads man. None of this stand around, wank about, OTOT* nonsense 'normadic' crap we're so used to...not this time at least. But at the end of the day, Its not the food that counts but the company." -Leander-

* a jargon commonly used in the military which stands for "Own Time Own Target"
** Wine included
*** A simple salad with mozzarella and fresh tomatoes with basil oil

2006 memoirs

Here are some of the memorable moments in 2006:
  1. NTU Beach Touch Carnival (5th Feb 2006): Champion & Runners-Up
A successful carnival which brings new players together to form 6-pack
Apart from that, the prizes of the tournament were the best received so far....

  2. Summer Touch League (13th Feb 2006 - 29th April 2006):3rd or 4th
1st ever tournament for 6-pack. The results are like roller coasters. Plenty of ups and downs.
6-pack scared the shit out of the other teams....for the wrong reason....(pls see pic)
  3. NTU 4-Attack Carnival (12th March 2006): Champion & 3rd/4th
It's hard for the silverware to elude the team full of talents such as Quickies, who became the eventual champion of NTU 4-Attack. On the other hand, incidentally a brother team called Chunky Monkeys made up of players not far away described by the team name, fell short in the Semi-Final. A player, who does not want to be named, said they did not lose but merely lost concentration from chatting with the referee while the opposition left him in the dust. Anyway,.....

  4. Rugby 7s with 6-pack and the ladies (8th & 9th April 2006)
As usual, Rugby and Beer bring the beast out of an ol' English Pervy
  5. SMU Touch Rugby Carnival (13th May 2006): 2nd & 3rd
2 Mixed team (MayNatsPayne & Niftyriffic) with mixed tale and fate. The report of the Carnival itself was a weird one. Quoting the author's advices, Cappie Dave ..."Six Pack- Communicate More!!! Talk alot in the Game!! Irritate the shit out of the opposition. Be Sheema. Big Voice... heh". WTF ... (p.s: no pics of the tournament, it was raining damn heavily that day...instead, here's pre-carnival prep)

  6. Blacks Fun Touch (28th May 2006): 2nd & 3rd placing
MaiGoaldenAsz....and...TickelMaiNats. Another tournament day full of Heavy rain, lightning, muddy pitch and virtually invisible (or rather misleading) tryline. Sudden death Final and a fuk-all mistake...

  7. KL Tour (2nd-4th June 2006)
Haggled by Taxi drivers, Who's the Murderer game, Food-binging, lotsa friendly games & Party....

  8. Diving at Dayang (16th - 18th June 2006)
    Wet bodies, Tanned skins
  9. Lion Red Carnival (2nd July 2006): Champion
Mid-year turning point for 6-pack. Trashing of all the teams in the Carnival and a confidence booster event. Perhaps Naz is the lucky charm of the team.... hmm....
  10. Asian Touch Rugby Tournaments (15th-16th July 2006)
An expensive joining fee and another wet tournament....
  11. Touch Singapore National Touch League 2006 (12th Aug - 14th Oct 2006): Champion
Sweats, Blood, Toils ....and finally happy tears...
  12. Oasis Touch Carnival 2006 (26th Nov 2006): 3rd/4th placing
    Reality..complacency..lack of preparations...
  13. ...and keep ur dirty laundry away from Gideon...

  14. Naz' wedding (17th December 2006)
There were so many smiles in 2006
Don't let them be gone
6-pack in 2007 ??

“The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall”

Excerpt from Wanderer's website (w.r.t Oasis 2006):
"The game pitted an experienced Bro Town side against a younger and possibly fitter SRC team. The result was a relatively comfortable win for the Bro Town team - one that could possibly be considered an upset given that SRC were the reigning Singapore Men's Open Champions. It was not to be SRC's day however and despite a strong showing they must again improve and show their ability to come out on top against more experienced touch opponents"

Not for the commonfolk...!

Never before has such a grand occasion been given the chance to present itself! A grand occasion such as one befitting the Kings of Kings and Champions alike, that even Arther's knights would have been less than worthy...

An invitation extended only to the proud members of Six Pack...

...an extra large seating capacity for 15 fortunate (probably) good looking people - Indoors or just roughing it out Alfresco-style..

36" plasma TV with unlimited channels to watch your favourite sport i.e. football, rugby, gaynetwork (specially subscribed for those with needs) etc.

15 Silky women to tempt even the most resilient...

Sensual morrocan/french/argentinian music will soothe even the most savage beast...

Top notch posh wine from the vineyards of.... 'what-have-you', as accredited by our very own Indon wine maestro to the best accompaniment of your foie gras or bigorre pork...

While nibbling eloquantly on your Brioche, be taken by the blanket of moonlit stars overhead and an array of tea lights which subtly illuminates the fine print of "Jammet-Seignolles " embossed delicately by the side of every dinnerware...pamper away!

As part of the extensive 10 course degustation menu, there'll be Hors d'Oeuvres a plenty such as mousse de foies de volaille , or simply indulge in Bouillon de Volaille au vermicelli or Gratinée Lyonnaise (onions et croutons soup) as an entree, and still have popular mains with Saumon poché sauce beaujolaise and Sauerkraut with meat (choucroute garnie) to look out for. Lastly some dolce for the sinful folks such as chocolate fondant to tease and entice your every taste bud...COMING SOON!
