The scene was set. The teams were ready. The showdown between the 2 biggest teams in Touch Singapore history. Never had the Wanderers faced an opposition like SRC in previous years. Never had the SRC defeated the Wanderers in any competitions.
It was all SRC at the start as they raced to a 3-0 lead. But soon the arrival of Axe Rawlinson and Devon paid divedends as Wanderers guys shamelessly attacked the SRC girls. Not just physically but verbally as well. Wanderers managed to take the lead and began to insert control of the game. It was 3-4 and SRC was pressured on all fronts. Shooting defence and great punching up by Wanderers. However, at the stroke of half-time, and against the run of play. 2 6packians managed to craft a try which probably sent this message to the Wanderers "We ain't gonna be yaw bridesmaid no more, you dig?"
It was a see-saw battle in the second half as both teams put pressure on each other. SRC guys countering the Wanderers shooting defence, Wanderers guys always running SRC girls ragged but without much success... Enormous effort from the SRC girls in defence... It took a moment of magic to settle this game. And true enough that piece of magic came in the form of the 2 foreign but most prominent players, 6 pack captains Alan and Leander.
Clock now was ticking.. a second seemed like eternity for SRC. Brave Defending. It was the final seconds of the game and Axe Rawlinson made a superb angled run looking for someone to finish the try. The crowd fell silent as they anticipated the inevitable. Its not SRC's day after all, they thought. But like thunder on a sunny day, an awesome dive by Boo, out of nowhere managed to stop Rawlinson in his tracks. Ball was thrown away in utter disgust, the final horn sounded.
SRC won.
The best game in the history of NTL was played. The best team won.
