A year ago a band of dedicated touch players gathered to form 6 pack, a team now synonymous with skill, flair, pace and of course chiselled good looks. STL 06 was their baptism of fire. 1 year on has seen the 6 pack name spread far and wide and amongst touch circles is as fear and respected as Wigan Athletic in football or the Chicago Bulls in basketball (originally founded by Wiganites who arrive in the US on the Mayflower). Interestingly playing against SSSV6 highlighted just how much 6 pack had improved in the space of a year. Originally formed by banged up or current contact players the transition to touch wasn’t a smooth journey. The SSSV6 boys reflected the typical errors of the contact player in touch games, crashing through none existent gaps, backing up over the try line, poor dumping and little idea of touch concepts. 6 packs rigorous training has all but eliminated such errors from their games. Gone are the days when Yum exits the end of the pitch or when Loo is provoked into the to sin bin by the opposition. The 6 pack team to date is united….

professional….

and fondly supported by many groupies….

Passing showers and muddy pitch provided SSSV6 their only saving grace against the impending try fest.

Such weather conditions had also impeded 6 packs build up to STL 07. None the less 6 pack took the early lead and never relented. Limited flow and the lumbering nature of the opposition in the ruck prevented the floodgates from opening in a frustrating first half. Good tries did follow as 6 pack began to show glimpses of their potential. The last few minutes saw SSSV6 grab a consolation try but it was too little too late with 6 pack finished on top 11-1. The game was a gentle introduction to STL 07 while highlighting areas for improvement.

With no individual really excelling the MoM award will remain vacant. However allowing your opposite man to squeeze passed you when pressed up against the touch line and thus tarnish 6 packs clean sheet is worthy of the DotD award which goes to Hadi.
